I bought this car from another
Dutchman in March 2002. He was the second owner and the full history of
the car is known. The 320iS was imported from Italy, beside Portugal the
only country this car was sold. I have always loved the spirit of the S14
M3 engine, but I find the M3's looks draw too much attention. This car
doesn't draw any attention at all. Well, it's a clean example but I could
just as well be a 316i.
When I bought the car it
was still on the regular 14" alloys but I soon decided to switch to the
15" BBS wheels. Further, I was planning on replacing the springs with Eibach
examples but the M 'Sportfahrwerk' springs feel great and the car remains
inconspicuous because of the ride height. I replaced the original Boge
shocks by Bilsteins.
Since only 1.074 4-door versions
of the car were built I want to keep the car quite original. But... some
real improvements were realised, ones that can easily be undone, like a
sports intake filter, Até PowerDisc rotors and a front strut tower
brace.
A problem regularly occurring
with Motorsport engines is a rattling timing chain. Even though the chains
of this car were seldomly heard I decided to go for the tensioner upgrade,
thus the tensioner of a E36 M3 3.2 was fitted.
