Project 335i - Brakes

325i Brake Assembly

The simplest solution, which also passes all inspections, is to use the factory e30 brakes.  This system uses ventilated front discs and non-ventilated rear discs.   This system is very reliable, and practical for everyday driving.  However, frequently pushing the limits of the car and the brakes in spirited on-road driving or track applications, will cause the brakes to fade rather quickly.

e30 M3 Brake Assembly

Those seeking a more aggressive brake system may want to use that of the e30 M3.  Converting to such a system will require the complete front strut assembly to be converted.  Also the rear brakes and suspension of the M3 will need to be used.  Note: This will also change the bolt pattern of the 335i to 5x120.  This pattern will allow the use of a wider variety of wheels, such as the classic 16" Alpina rims.  Others are also available; from factory (e28, e24 or even the 17" of the e34), or a wide variety of aftermarket rims.

Alpina Brake Assembly

If the four lug pattern (4x100 et25) is to remain, the Alpina brake assembly may be used as a substitute.  This consists of large diameter discs and larger calipers being installed in the front. After such a conversion 16", or larger, rims will be required for clearance reasons.
